Mobile Fine-Scale Tracking Field Protocol Developed PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Jacque Carter
This week we began development and design of our mobile fine-scale tracking field protocol. Several ‘test surveys were conducted in the estuary and river to determine the range and accuracy of the mobile hydrophone and receiver. We also worked to establish a conventional tagging program using external floy dart tags. This aspect of the project is designed to involve local fishing guides in the capture, tagging and release of striped bass throughout the summer fishing season. Lastly we began work to develop additional laboratory and field protocols specifically designed to address questions of genetic structure of the striped bass stock as well as reproductive status of seasonal migrants. All this while local guides, and in particular, members of the CCA were beginning to catch fish for us to tag. Kudos to all the local help we have received in the community.
