Tagging Has Begun PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Just a quick update on the season so far.  As many of you know, we have had a ton of rain already this season.  Its raining now as I type this and supposed to keep raining for the next couple of days.  Because of this, the fishing has been sporadic.  Two weeks ago, I tagged the first two fish of 2006.  Both were about 23" bass, both caught up near the dam in Saco.  We are trying to get as many fish tagged up near the dam as possible.  These fish are here early and are using the river.  We want to know if they will stay in the area all summer and keep using the river, or if they will leave once the herring run ends.  Around a week ago, I tagged two more fish up near the dam.  Another fish about 23" and one about 28".  Both of these fish were healthy, fat, and full of herring.  I tried again today up near the dam but caught nothing.  After a couple days of heavy rain, it appears that either the fish have moved downstream towards the coast, or maybe they are just not feeding because the water temperature has dropped.

One fish has come back so far this season.  Fish #58, named Zeke last appeared in our system back in September.  He came back to the mouth of the Saco on June 5.  Hopefully he will spend another summer in the area.

Thats about it so far.  I havent posted profiles for the newly tagged fish, but will try to do so in the near future.
